European Aluminum Association reportedly calls for not imposing sanctions on Rusal.

According to a report from Reuters on July 14th, the European Aluminum Association has considered lobbying the European Union (EU) for sanctions on the Russian aluminum industry. However, they propose excluding the largest Russian aluminum producer, Rusal, from the sanctions. The report states that the document, dated July 2023, reveals that members of the European Aluminum Association have discussed the possibility of "actively calling for EU sanctions on the Russian aluminum industry." However, the document also acknowledges the challenges of imposing sanctions on Rusal due to its extensive global presence in the aluminum business, even though finding alternative supplies for Russian aluminum ingots in Europe is feasible. Therefore, the European Aluminum Association suggests that the EU should avoid imposing sanctions on Russian aluminum companies.
